The Lady Red Softball team left the Oologah tournament at 5-2 bringing their season record to 21-7, still leading the district.
The girls had a back to back matches with two games Thursday, Sept 7, three games Friday, Sept 8 and two games on Saturday, Sept 9.
Big Red lost two of their tournament games to Oologah 3-1 and to Claremore Sequoyah 6-3.
Thursday night Mikalle Pair threw another shutout game for the Lady Red against Mannford winning with a 10-0 lead.
Pair threw 19 first pitch strikes in the five innings of play ending with a low WHIP of 0.40.
Notable RBIs for the girls were Pair with three, Macee Barnes with 2 and Emma Fields with 1.
Oologah put up a challenge for the Lady with a close game that came down to a final at bat win by Oologah in the seventh bringing the score to 3-1
Friday morning the Lady Red blew out Coweta with a big fourth inning to win 9-3 with Pair pitching again for the girls with 16 first pitch strikes.
The ladies took an early lead in their next game over Vinita closing it out after six innings of play with a 7-1 victory.
Friday’s final game against Claremore Sequoyah was lost with a 3-6 score.
Grove had both Pair and Laken Malone pitching against Claremore for the six innings of play.
They put up five hits to Claremore’s eight, who took an early lead in the second inning with five runs score.
Saturday the girls went undefeated in their two games against Union JV and Checotowa.
Pair pitched the four innings against Union JV with 14 first pitch strikes allowing the girls to take an 11-2 win.
Malone threw their next game against Checotowa pitching for the four innings of play with 11 first pitch strikes.
The girls closed the game out in the fourth after a five run inning placing them with a 10 run lead to finish a 12-2 win over Checotowa.
“Laken Malone and Mikalle Pair pitched really well all weekend," Coach Jeremy Collins said. "Mikalle went 3-1 and Laken went 2-1. We hit the ball well overall Macee Barnes, Megan Trammel and Blaise Redus were exceptional at the plate.
“I thought we played really good defense and ran bases very well."
Collins said the team has a big week coming up, with a non-district matchup with Pryor, then games with Locust Grove, Vinita and Miami.
“Overall [we] were happy with the way we played the tournament," Collins said.
The next non-league/district game for the Lady Red takes place at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Locust Grove.
The game against Miami has been moved up to 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, at at home.
The team will face Vinita at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14, in Vinita.
The team was scheduled to compete in Pryor on Monday, the results were unknown as of presstime.
