Kansas traveled to Oklahoma Union on Friday, Aug. 25 and dropped their season opener 14-0 to the Cougars.
“We played physical at times but we were not consistent,” said Coach Jimmy Dushane.
Oklahoma Union scored one touchdown in each of the first and second quarters to lead 14-0 at half time.
Kansas ran 46 total plays with six first downs. Kansas had 40 yards passing in the game with senior Austin Glass completing three for 25 yards and junior Christian Glass connecting on two for 15 yards.
“We made to many little mistakes but gave great effort and we played hard,” Dushane said.
It was running back by committee for the Comets with junior Keelan Davis netting a 32-yard run and senior Aaron Reeder carrying nine times for 29 yards.
Davis also had three catches for 36 yards for Kansas. Davis had 68 all-purpose yards for the Comets.
On defense junior Daris Glass and sophomore Jagar Pifer led the team with 18 and 15 tackles respectively.
Senior Kade Moore and junior Zach Lamont had seven each. Davis and sophomore Will Houston had six. Junior Wyatt Curtiss had a sack for Kansas. Pifer and junior Chance Kolysko a fumble recovery each while Houston blocked a field goal.
Kansas will have a bye week this week and then return to action on Sept. 8 at Wyandotte.
