The 2017 American Legion Auxiliary Oklahoma Girls State took place from May 28 to June 2 at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.

Oklahoma Girls State is a nonpartisan program teaching young women responsible citizenship and love for God and country.

Since inception in 1937, nearly 1 million women nationwide have had the opportunity to learn how their state and local government functions.

Two citizens from each Girls State are selected to participate in the annual Girls Nation program. This is the 75th year of Oklahoma Girls State.

Members of the Qualate-Pritchard Unit #178 of Grove sponsored eight girls from Grove and Jay High Schools who represented Delaware County at the event.

They included: Selena Facio, Lacey Kerr, Audrey Martin, Zoe Cunningham, Mattie Haynes, Heather Robinett, Dakota Whinery and Mazie Lancaster.

Alternates included: Hannah Apperson, Dessirae Bacon, Teagan Bowzer, Shelby Davidson, Alexis Dodd, Angel Dozier, Sunni Scott and Avery Williamson.

Local co-sponsors included: Grand River Title and Abstract Company, Grand Savings Bank of Grove, Arvest Bank, Integris Grove Hospital, Bank of Grove, Tracy Hare-Owasso, Jane Wilson-Fairland, and Grand Savings Bank of Jay.
