A special meeting of the Grove City Council will take place this week to discuss two items.
The meeting, set for 6 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 29, will discuss a proposed agreement with the Fraternal Order of Police, Grand Lake Lodge 171, and potential action with the proposed civic center.
The meeting will take place in room 5 of the Grove Community Center, 104 West Third, Grove.
The agreement with the FOP is for the 2017-18 fiscal year, and includes revisions concerning the buyback of accumulated compensatory time, salaries, holidays, intradepartmental transfers, compliant investigations and off duty employment.
Regarding the civic center, the council will consider a new direction for city staff to take, after Concept Development terminated the sale of the structure concerning several areas:
• the sales tax question, originally slated with council approval, to come before voters on Nov. 14.
• the purchase of the 21 acres of land along north Highway 59, owned by Boogaloo Properties. The city’s option agreement expires on Dec. 1.
• whether the city officials will continue to pursue the sale of the current civic center, and if the council is open to unsolicited proposals from qualified buyers, or if the process will remain through a broker.
• if the Grow with Grove task-force should continue to work on a feasibility study that could be used to support a new conference and event center, as well as a conference hotel.
