Karen K. Miller, 77, formerly of Grove, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017 in Joplin, Missouri.

Karen was born on Dec. 22, 1939 to Don and Vena (Kenny) Wheeler in Cherryvale, Kansas, where she grew up and graduated high school in 1957.

Following high school, Karen attended LaBette Community College and received her degree in nursing.

On Jan. 22, 1976, Karen married the love of her life, Gary Miller, in Carthage, Missouri.

They moved to Grove in 1983, where she worked as the Director of Nursing at Home Health Services for many years.

Her husband, Gary, preceded her in death in 2002. In 2015, Karen moved to Joplin to be closer to family.

Karen loved Grand Lake, traveling and spending time with her family. She was Christian in faith.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, and twin daughters Peggy Navarro and Pamela Jenkins.

Left to carry on her legacy: children: Terri Marchant and husband, Larry of Cherryvale, Kansas; Rick Beck and wife, Peggy of Joplin; Vicki Eagle and companion, Ken of Yates Center, Kansas; Jason Miller of San Diego, California and Mika Carden and husband, Jay, of Seligman, Missouri; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and one special canine companion, Rufus.

A visitation for family and friends will take place from noon to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Nichols Funeral Chapel with funeral services immediately following at 2 p.m. Interment will take place at Hickory Grove Cemetery.

Donations in Karen’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
