The annual softball Sister City, which took place on Tuesday, Aug. 15, face-off pit the Lady Red Ridgerunners against the Jay Lady Bulldogs.
In the end, the game went to the Ridgerunners, as the team shut the Lady Bulldogs out at the top of the fifth with a 0-10 victory.
Back for her senior year with the Lady Red, Katie Bunch opened the game as the starting pitcher with a total of eight strikeouts and no runs.
The Lady Red took an early 0-2 lead with Kianna Pellegrino hitting deep to left field with a triple, followed up by Macee Barnes with a triple RBI out to deep center field.
The Lady Bulldogs then threw a wild pitch allowing Barnes to steal home setting the pace for the next five innings.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the second inning with single, leaving the player stranded on first base as Bunch struck out three back to back hitters.
Bottom of the second started off with another triple to deep right field by Elizabeth Cash and brought home with a single RBI by Ava Sarwinski.
The Lady Red ended its inning with an out caused by a rarely seen rule in softball when Sarwinski was called out for attempting to advance to second while the ball was in the pitcher’s mound circle bringing the score to 0-3.
Top of the third brought some promise to the Lady Bulldogs with two infield grounders placing runners on first and second.
A missed pitch by the Lady Red catcher allowed both Lady Bulldogs to advance to third and second, placing both runners in scoring position.
The Lady Red extended its lead at the bottoms of the third with Pellegrino being walked followed by a hit to deep center from Blaise Redus resulting in a double with an RBI.
Megan Tramel then answered with a double of her own bringing Redus home for an RBI.
Lacy Rowe then hit a single advancing Tramel to third and a wild pitch from the Lady Bulldogs allowed Tramel to steal home for the Lady Red second time of the game.
The Lady Bulldogs could not answer the batting lineup of the Lady Red this inning by allowing an additional sacrifice RBI, a single RBI and a double RBI increasing the lead to 0-8 by the end of the inning.
In the top of the fourth the Lady Bulldogs were unable to place a runner on base with a pop fly to second and two strikeouts.
The Lady Red came out with a show of power to clinch the victory with Pellegrino getting walked for the second time. Followed by Barnes smashing a long center field home run increasing the lead to 0-10 before ending the inning.
Barnes hit brought the game to an end due to the run rule giving a win to the Lady Red.
The Lady Red will next play in the OK Shootout in Shawnee on Friday, Aug. 18 and Saturday, Aug. 19.
