Artists and performers of all types are being sought for "Paper the Town with Art" the first event for the Grove Springs Cultural District.
The arts festival focusing on original work from Grand Lake area artists will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 16, in Grove.
About the Festival
This is the first year for this event. Funding is provided, in part by the Oklahoma Arts Council's Cultural District Initiative program.
“The development of a cultural district can illuminate our unrecognized local artists and bring their work onto the community stage,” said Suzanne Boles, festival coordinator. “It may lead to more social bonding within our community and the wider area around the lake.”
The Grove Springs Cultural District is a geographic area which includes not only artists and art businesses, but cultural facilities, entertainment businesses and organizations with activities and assets that express a value for the arts and its potential influence.
The anchor for the district is the C2 zoned, downtown district in Grove, while arts and humanities organizations throughout Grove are considered satellite locations.
The festival is designed to include a wide range of artistic expression such as high or fine arts, as well as popular, ethnic and commercial artists, cultural industries and historic preservation, to name a few.
It will include, but not be limited to, visual and performing artists of all ages and disciplines, film-makers, craftspeople, fiber artists, digital and media artists, culinary artists, designers and architects.
