Who are you?
Born in Oklahoma City, I grew up in Owasso and was a 1994 graduate of Owasso High School. My parents, Jim and Vicky Beers, have been married for 42 years and still live in Owasso. I have two younger brothers, Brad and Kevin, who live in Broken Arrow and Tulsa.
Summers on Grand
I spent many summer days of my childhood on and around Grand Lake with my family.
I studied journalism at both Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami and the University of Central Oklahoma. I also I spent three years in the U.S. Air Force.
My love of sports writing came from being a huge sports fan. I would often keep score of Chicago Cubs' games as a child in the 1980s, following them each day on WGN.
What's your journalism background?
Other newspapers I have worked for include the Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise, El Reno Tribune, Owasso Reporter, Piedmont-Surrey Gazette and most recently the Pryor Daily Times.
What's the craziest thing you've covered so far in your career?
Don't know if I have a craziest, but the most memorable include the 2007 Fiesta Bowl (Oklahoma vs. Boise St.), as well as the state champions during the last three years involving the Locust Grove girls basketball, Adair football and Pryor softball.
My favorite professional sports team is the Chicago Cubs. I'm a big fan of all University of Oklahoma sports.
Are you a cat or dog person?
I'm a cat and dog person. I have two cats, Casper and Chloe, and one dog, a Dachshund named Cooper.
Anything else you want people to know?
I'm a big music person - favorite artist is Jack White, and I enjoy listening to records. I also enjoy history and reading.
