A modern-day Red Skelton will step on the stage this week, as Trevor Thomas brings his form of evangelism and comedy to Grove.
Thomas, who resides in Plant City, Florida, routinely performs his act, which mixes music, comedy and drama, alongside his wife, Sawyer, and daughter, Claire.
Nicknamed "Mr. Drama," Thomas and his family will perform at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, at Foundation Free Will Baptist Church, rural Grove.
Thomas said his act uses more character-based comedy, rather than stand-up comedy. He said the events include a "collision" of theatre, comedy, music and evangelism.
"[It's] everything varies from funny to serious," Thomas said. "However all of the material is worshipful, evangelistic and edifying for the church."
Thomas said has been performing in front of crowds since his childhood.
"It's always been that way," Thomas said. "I knew I had a calling to spread the gospel, and this is the way the Lord chose for me to do it."
Thomas said those who attend will find laughter, as well as moments of reflection. He hopes people leave filled with encouragement, as well as a foundational knowledge of where they stand in their faith.
"This is everything I've ever wanted to do," Thomas said. "I get to make a living and be in ministry all at the same time. It's not always easy, but it is very rewarding."
Foundation Free Will Baptist Church is located two miles north of Sail Boat Bridge on Highway 59. Admission is free. A love offering will be taken up for Thomas.
