More changes are coming for to the 2017 Delaware County Free Fair schedule after members of the county fair board met on Thursday, July 13.

One event that will not be taking place this year at the fair is the Draft Horse Pull.

"The people that always come and put on the draft horse pull was unavailable this year with the changes to fair schedule," said Amber Whitlock, Delaware County Fair Board secretary.

Whitlock said board members discussed moving the event to a different day, but then voted not have the event this year.

The board also voted to not charge for the tractor pull set for 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 2 at the fairgrounds.

Another change, comes linked to the livestock show.

This year, all livestock entries for the 4-H, FFA and open exhibitors, must be pre-registered for the fair.

"All exhibitors need to contact their local FFA or agriculture instructor or the OSU Extension Office to obtain the required form," Whitlock said. "Forms are to be at extension office or with the local FFA or agriculture instructor no later than Friday, Aug. 18."

Another change, comes in who can compete in the greased pig contest.

"In the past we have had different age groups to compete in the contest," Whitlock said. "This year we are having only 10 and under."

For poultry and rabbit exhibitors, two changes have been made for the pre-entry dates.

This weekend, Saturday, July 22, the session - originally planned for poultry only - has been opened for both species, to be tattooed and entered. The final session. previously set for Saturday, Aug. 12, has been changed to 6 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 13.

"August 12 is Cruise Night in Jay and we didn't want people trying to come in and out of the fairgrounds with all the traffic from that event," said Whitlock.

Both pre-entry dates will take place at the Delaware County Fairgrounds, on Highway 10, located between Grove and Jay. Those two dates are the only times poultry and rabbit entries will be accepted for the fair in either the youth or open divisions.
