GAMA Farmers' Market

The Grove Area Merchants Farmers' Market is open for the 2017 season.

The market, organized by GAMA members, takes place from 8 a.m. - noon every Wednesday and Saturday at the Grove Community Center, 104 W. Third, Grove.

This is a producer-only market. Everything is handmade or home-grown. Spots for vendors remain available. Local musicians interested in taking part in the market are encouraged to do so.

Welfarewell at the Playmakers

“Welfarewell,” an award-winning play by Cat Delany, continues now, through select dates until July 22, at the Playmakers’ theatre, 121 West Third, Grove.

The production, a comedy, is a lampooning of those living on not so livable fixed incomes - from out of work actors to hookers, a shoplifter and murderous wife.

Remaining performances are at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, July 21 and 22.

Learning to talk to doctor

Lee Hilliard, outreach specialist, and Russell Peters, nurse practitioner, with Community Health Center of Northeast Oklahoma will present a program “talking with your doctor” at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, at the Grove Senior Citizen Center.

The event is designed to help people learn to communicate with their health care practitioners, in order to take an active role with their health care.

It will include tips on how to get ready for a doctor’s visit, have a successful conversation about health concerns, make decisions together with the doctor and more.

Grove Chamber annual banquet

Officials with the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce will host the annual banquet at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 20, at the River Bend Casino Event Center, 100 Jackpot Place, Wyandotte.

Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr., will serve as the guest speaker. Tickets are $40 per person before July 7, and $50 after July 7. RSVP required by July 7 by calling 918-786-9079.

South Grand Lake Chamber

Members of the South Grand Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will meet at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, July 20, at the South Grand Lake Christian Center.

Officials with Ketchum Public Schools will serve as the guest speakers. The meal, which costs $10 per person, will be catered by the Artichoke.

Great Grand Bobber Drop

The eighth annual Great Grand Bobber Drop will take place on Saturday, July 22, on Grand Lake.

The event begins at 8 a.m., as Sam Williams from the Grand Lake Sports Center drops bobbers - from an airplane - down the middle of Grand Lake at Honey Creek, Sail Boat Bridge, Shangri-La, Bernice and Elk River, and everywhere in between.

Participants are encouraged to find bobbers and bring them to the Grand Lake Sports Center at Third and Main, Grove, to see if it is a winner.

AARP Driver Safety Program

Local classes for the AARP Driver Safety Program will take place in March to December. The one-day course is six hours in length. Drivers will be able to obtain a discount from their insurance carriers for taking the course.

The classes are open to all interested drivers, including those who have taken it in the past. Upcoming class dates are Wednesdays, Aug. 30, Sept. 27, Oct. 4 and Nov. 29, and Saturday Dec. 9.
