GAMA Farmers' Market

The Grove Area Merchants Farmers' Market is open for the 2017 season.

The market, organized by GAMA members, takes place from 8 a.m. - noon every Wednesday and Saturday at the Grove Community Center, 104 W. Third, Grove.

This is a producer-only market. Everything is handmade or home-grown. Spots for vendors remain available. Local musicians interested in taking part in the market are encouraged to do so.

Food Truck Friday

Officials with the Grove Convention and Tourism Bureau will host the first Food Truck Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 7, on the lawn of the Grove Community Center, 104 West Third, Grove.

The event will feature food trucks, as well as boats from the weekend's Southern Drag Boat Association races. The bluegrass band, The Mission, will also perform.

SDBA at Wolf Creek

Member of the Southern Drag Boat Association will host the Wolf Creek Nationals beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, July 8 and 9, at Wolf Creek Park in Grove.

The event features drag boats from across the country. Gates open at 8 a.m., each day, with qualifying races beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday and racing beginning at noon on Sunday.

Tickets are $15 for the day or $25 for a weekend pass. Military and first responders buy one, get one free. Kids under 12 are free. Cooler passes are available.

Additionally, a show and shine will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday, July 7, at the Grove Community Center, 104 West Third, Grove. That event, which coincides with the city's First Friday Food Truck rally, is free to the public.

Welfarewell at the Playmakers

“Welfarewell,” an award-winning play by Cat Delany, opens Saturday, July 8 at The Playmakers’ theatre, 121 West Third, Grove.

The production, a comedy, is a lampooning of those living on not so livable fixed incomes - from out of work actors to hookers, a shoplifter and murderous wife.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays, July 8, 15 and 22, Tuesday, July 11, and Friday, July 14 and 21; and at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 9 and 16.

GLOC Shootout

The 2017 Grand Lake O' The Cherokees PErformance Boat Challenge, known as the GLOC Shootout, will take place from Thursday, July 13 to Sunday, July 16, on Grand Lake, near Grove.

The event will include:

• a street party from 5 to 10 p.m., on Thursday, July 13, at the Grove Civic Center, 1702 South Main, Grove.

• a crusing the dock party from 5 to 10 p.m., at Lakeside Marina next to Sail Boat Bridge.

• opening ceremonies at 10 a.m., on Saturday, July 15, followed by racing from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. With lakeside viewing available at Lakeside Marina next to Sail Boat Bridge.

• racing from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, July 16, followed by an awards ceremony at 5 p.m., at Lakeside Marina, next to Sail Boat Bridge.

Grove Chamber annual banquet

Officials with the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce will host the annual banquet at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 20, at the River Bend Casino Event Center, 100 Jackpot Place, Wyandotte.

Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr., will serve as the guest speaker. Tickets are $40 per person before July 7, and $50 after July 7. RSVP required by July 7 by calling 918-786-9079.

Great Grand Bobber Drop

The eighth annual Great Grand Bobber Drop will take place on Saturday, July 22, on Grand Lake.

The event begins at 8 a.m., as Sam Williams from the Grand Lake Sports Center drops bobbers - from an airplane - down the middle of Grand Lake at Honey Creek, Sail Boat Bridge, Shangri-La, Bernice and Elk River, and everywhere in between.

Participants are encouraged to find bobbers and bring them to the Grand Lake Sports Center at Third and Main, Grove, to see if it is a winner.

AARP Driver Safety Program

Local classes for the AARP Driver Safety Program will take place in March to December. The one-day course is six hours in length. Drivers will be able to obtain a discount from their insurance carriers for taking the course.

The classes are open to all interested drivers, including those who have taken it in the past. Upcoming class dates are Wednesdays, Aug. 30, Sept. 27, Oct. 4 and Nov. 29, and Saturday Dec. 9.
