The Grove track and field team represented at the State meet in Yukon. 

The Lady Red earned three medals and the Ridgerunners earned two during the event, which was held over the span of Friday and Saturday, May 12-13.

The Lady Red finished in fourth overall, earning ten points.

Grove's Megan Tramel was the first to earn her third gold medal, clearing a height of 11-0 in the pole vault. Tramel won in 2016 with the same height and cleared 11-6 in 2015 to win. Eraya Elder finished tenth in the pole vault, with a height of 9-0. 

Keely McLaughlin was the lone female thrower for the Lady Red, and McLaughlin did not disappoint. The Oregon State signee won her third shot put gold when she threw a 45-04.5. The throw broke the State meet record. McLaughlin won in 2016 with a distance of 43-08 and in 2015 with a 39-04.5. 

McLaughlin also took second in the discus, throwing a distance of 135-05. McLaughlin missed the gold by a mere two inches, but threw a 137-01 in 2016 and a 142-01 in 2015. 

Elyssa Teel competed in the high jump, but struggled against the field. 

On the track the 4x800 meter relay team of Macee Barnes, Sade Monfort, Katelyn Cohea and Elder placed seventh with a time of 10:19.49. The time was the best for the team all season. 

Barnes and Elder also competed in the 800 meter run, with Barnes placing eleventh and Elder placing twelfth. The 4x400 meter relay team of Barnes, Mikela Cooper, Carleigh Johnson and Elder finished in thirteenth. Anastasia Pace placed fourteenth in the 300 meter hurdles. 


Matt Amos earned the silver medal in the discus, with a distance of 151-08. Skyler Hernandez finished in seventh, throwing a 134-05. Mason Russ also competed in the disc, but did not move on the the finals. 

Russ also threw the shot put, finishing in twelfth overall with a throw of 43-08.5. 

Gaven Honeycutt won the bronze in the pole vault, clearing a height of 14-6. Honeycutt had placed eighth in 2016, with a height of 13-6. Kai Sarwinski finished in eleventh, clearing 12-0. 

Brady Phillips was the lone track athlete on the boys side. Phillips won third in the 400 meter dash, an event he placed second in in 2016, and placed eighth in the 200 meter dash. 

The meet concludes the 2017 season for the track and field team.
