The Lady Red track team is making the most of the meets at the end of the season.
The 28th Annual Jock's Nitch/Gorilla Relays at Pittsburg State University took place on Friday, April 14, in Pittsburg, Kansas. The team then traveled to Vinita to compete on Tuesday, April 18.
The Lady Red finished in tenth place with a score of 33. Pittsburg took first with 123 points, followed by Owasso (61), Webb City (57), Bolivar (52), Raymore-Peculiar (49), Lincoln Christian (49), Carl Junction (47), Maize (43) and West Bentonville (42).
On the ground, Grove's Anastasia Pace took fifteenth in the 300 meter hurdles, running a time of 52.68. In the 400 meter dash, Claire White placed fifteenth (1:05.84) and Mikela Cooper finished in twenty-second (1:06.57).
In the relays, the Lady Red placed thirteenth in the 4x200, eleventh in the 4x400 and tenth in the 4x800.
Elyssa Teel cleared a height of 4-6 in the high jump to take twelfth place. Megan Tramel took fourth in the pole vault, clearing 10-6. Eraya Elder placed seventh, clearing a height of 9-6.
Keely McLaughlin finished first in the shot and second in the disc, throwing 43-7.5 and 132-7. Alisha Jones took fifth in shot and eighteenth in disc, with distances of 35-5 and 93-5. Cheyenne Tanner placed ninth in shot and fifth in disc, throwing 34-1.5 and 112-11.
At the Vinita meet, Grove placed third overall, accruing 68 points. Wagoner took first with 98 points and Vinita placed second with 83 points. Adair finished in fourth with 68 points and Sequoyah rounded out the top five with 61 points.
In the 800 meter run, Sade Monfort placed fifth, running a time of 2:38.75. Emma Pospisil finished in sixth with a time of 2:39.50. In the 4x400, Grove took fourth with a time of 4:19.16. The Lady Red placed fourth in the 4x800 as well, with a time of 10:34.18.
In the high jump, Teel placed fifth, clearing 5-0. Elder placed first in the pole vault, clearing 9-0. White took third after clearing 8-0.
McLaughlin took first in the disc and second in the shot, throwing distances of 131-6.5 and 40-10.5. Tanner took fourth in the disc and third in the shot, throwing a 107-10 and a 34-7. Jones took fourth in the shot, with a distance of 33-10.
The team will compete again at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 21, at Joplin.
