A total of $135,000 was raised on Saturday, April 1, as more than 420 patrons took part in the 2017 GEFFE Gala, at the Grove Civic Center.

The event, organized by a team of volunteers, raises funds for the Grove Educational Foundation For Excellence.

Monies obtained from the ticket sales, silent auction and live auction, provide funds for the group's annual grant distribution to Grove teachers.

In the organization's history, more than $1 million in grants have been provided for projects such as Google Expedition, books for classrooms, a greenhouse program, equipment for the band program and more.

The event recognizes the Shining Star teachers - this year the award was shared by Melaine Crowder and Kim Hampton, teachers at Grove Lower Elementary. The pair were honored for their grant which involved using Google Expeditions to teach students about geography in an interactive way.

The 2017 Top Scholars at Grove High School were also honored. They included: Alivia Martin, Emily Sisco, Stevie Elkins, Becca Lucky, Jared Carper, Payton Hill, Macey Middleton, Julia VanHoose, Nathan Boone and Jaxson Oakley.
