It was a night of memories as Grove High School juniors and seniors took part in the 2017 Sunken Treasures Prom on Saturday, April 8, at the Grove Civic Center.
During the event, hosted by this year's juniors, Alexia Benson and Brady Phillips were voted by their peers as this year's royalty.
For Benson, the evening was a bit more memorable, as she wore the dress her mother, Krissy, wore to her senior prom in 1997.
Initially, Benson planned to wear her Sherri Hill dress purchased for homecoming to prom. However, plans changed when she came across her mother's dress while the pair were working in Benson's grandmother's home.
Benson said it meant a lot to her to wear the dress that her mother wore at prom. Her date, Mike, would later become Benson's father.
Krissy Benson said she had to hide the tears when her daughter first tried on the dress.
"It was just so touching, that she found it to be so special to wear," Krissy Benson said, adding that the moment Saturday meant a great deal to others in the family, especially Benson's grandmother, who now resides in Grove.
"Twenty years later, my little girl is wearing [my dress]," Krissy Benson said. "It was just really special to for the whole family. To have a little gril who appreciates something like that, is priceless."
