Kansas and Colcord baseball teams suffered the same fate in their respective season opening games.

Colcord traveled to Quapaw on Tuesday, Feb. 28 and fell 13-1 to the Wildcats, while Kansas dropped a 4-3 loss to Class 3A , 17th ranked Lincoln Christian on Tuesday, Feb. 28 and then to number one ranked Verdigris on Friday, March 3.

Quapaw 14 Colcord 1

Quapaw scored eight runs in the first inning and then added four in the fourth to pull away in the game.

Dustin Foreman had the lone run for Colcord in the fifth inning. Foreman took the loss on the mound for Colcord.

Lincoln Christian 4 Kansas 3

Lincoln Christian took a 1-0 lead after the first and then extended that advantage to 2-0 after the third.

Kansas put points on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when Blaine Pickup hits a home run over the left field fence. Kansas tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after Garret Rowdy Blackbird who reached base on a walk.

The Comets finished with six hits in the game led by Pigeon who was 2-4 while Daris Glass, Bo Adams, Hunter Sapp and Pickup also had hits.

Adams pitched six innings for Kansas. Adams struck out six batters while giving up four hits and three runs. He also had five walks in the game. Blackbird pitched the final inning withe one hit, one run, one walk and one strike out in the game.

Verdigris 16 Kansas 2

Kansas scored both of their runs in the top of the second inning. Pickup scored on a Sapp hit to left field to make the score 3-1 in favor of Verdigris and then cut the lead to one point when Sapp came home on Chance Kolysko double to right field.

The top ranked Cardinals then blew the game open in the bottom of the inning with 12 runs scored and a 15-2 advantage.

Kansas finished with four hits in the game with Blackbird, Sapp, Kolysko and Bohdi Barnett. Kansas has four pitchers take the mound in the game. Keelan Davis, Pickup and Pigeon combined for seven hits and four strikeouts in the game.
