Jay JV girls basketball team faced a tall task playing against varsity teams in the Tri-State Classic Basketball Tournament held Thursday-Saturday, Jan. 19-21.
The Lady Bulldogs fell to Class 3A, eighth-ranked Kansas 79-16 in the opening game of the tournament. In the second game, they beat Lifeway Christian Academy 34-26 before falling to Kansas JV in the consolation finals 34-23.

Kansas put five players in double figures as they beat Jay JV 79-16.
Jay JV scored the first points in the in the game before Kansas ran off 19 straight. Brooklynn Larmon stopped the run when she hit a two point basket at the buzzer to put the half score 19-4. The Lady Comets nearly doubled the score with 17 in the third before Jay scored with the Kansas lead 37-6. Brittney Reece and Chevy Jackson finished with four each.
Jay JV 34 Lifeway Christian 26
Jay JV girls basketball pulled out to lead 9-6 at the end of the first quarter and 21-8 at half time behind nine points from Bailey Callihan. The Lady Bulldogs held on for a 34-26 win over Lifeway Christian Academy. Jay was led with 12 points from Bailey Callahan and eight from Creedance Kirby and Brittany Reece. Brooklynn Larmon had four and Chevy Jackson two.
Kansas JV 34 Jay JV 23
Kansas JV, with a 20-18 lead at halftime, outscored Jay JV 14-5 in the second half to win the consolation trophy 34-23. Kansas scored the first nine points in the game before Jay made a run and cut the Lady Comets lead to one point, 19-18, at halftime.
Bailey Callihan had nine for Jay, Creedence Kirby and Shae Welch four while Kahaila Charqueno, Brittany Reece and Brooklynn Larmon had two each.
