The 2017 Spring Livestock Show season will kick off for Delaware County exhibitors Saturday, Jan. 28 when the Jay Chapter Show takes place at the Delaware County Fairgrounds.

"We are expecting probably 60 head of animals," said Jay FFA advisor Sharon Kunze. We will have pigs, goats, sheep and cattle."

Kunze says her exhibitors are excited to be in the show arena.

"We have a good group of kids showing this year that are excited to start showing," Kunze said.

Check in for the show will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

"Showing cattle is much different than a pig," Kunze said. "It is difficult at times but at the same time very enjoyable.

The goat show will be first followed by sheep cattle and pigs.

"It is better to try and fail than not to try at all," said contestant Thomas Henson. "If you succeed, keep on succeeding,"

Henson will be showing pigs this spring.

"I am showing for the first time this year," said contestant Jorge Rodriguez. "I will be showing my duroc gilt. I have used all my free time to work with her. Sometimes I am in the barn with her at 1 a.m. after I get off work.

"I am really looking forward to showing this year

The show begins at 12:30 p.m.

"I want everyone to come out and watch our chapter show this Saturday," Kunze said. "It will be a good opportunity for the community to come out and support our Jay show exhibitors."
