DELAWARE COUNTY - Jay and Colcord Boards of Education held their monthly meetings Thursday, Jan. 19.

Jay Board approves Superintendent selection process

The Jay Board of Education approved the process in which the new superintendent of Jay public schools will be selected. The board selected members Virgil Stump and David Holcombe to start sorting through applications and set up preliminary interviews after the application deadline of Friday, Jan. 20 is reached.

After the preliminary interviews, applicants will then go before a committee, yet to be formed, of board members, administrations, teachers, staff and community representatives.

The committee will report back to the board with their recommendation from the applicants. The final decision of who will be hired to replace Charles Thomas after his retirement will be made by the board of education.

The board also approved the purchase of a 2006 Chevrolet, 14-passenger mini bus. The bus was delivered Friday, Jan. 13.

In other action, the board approved an agreement with Interquest Detection Canine's, approved the Colcord Superintendent to represent Jay Public Schools on the Board of Directors at Grand Gateway Economic Development Association and accepted the resignation of Nakayla Dunn.

Colcord approves Simmons contract extension

Colcord Board of Education approved continued employment of Superintendent Bud Simmons for the 2017-18 school year. Simmons was also named the representative for the Grand Gateway Economic Development Association by the board.

In other action, the board approved both certified and support staff for the 21st Century Grant Program for the remainder of the 2016-17 school year. A school wellness plan and a reading sufficiency plan were also approved.
