Meet Brown Sugar, a senior dog who has been living at the Second Chance Pet Rescue of Grand Lake's shelter in Grove.

Brown Sugar is considered a "senior" dog, who is available for adoption through the Senior for Senior program.

Recently Monkey Islanders Peggy Howard and Patty Davis were two of a group of Monkey Island residents that made a big difference for Second Chance Pet Rescue of Grand Lake.

Through different fundraising projects throughout the year, Monkey Island residents raise money for various community projects. With their help, the shelter received several trailers full of these much needed "Wish List" supplies.

The residents used their fundraising dollars to purchase 21 bags each of dog and cat food, 42 bags of cat litter, stacks of paper supplies, and gallons of cleaning supplies for delivery to the shelter.

Kim Nelson, shelter manager, was thrilled when the deliveries were made.

"We couldn't do what we do for the animals we care for without the caring and kindness of wonderful people in our Grand Lake communities," Nelson said. "We thank them all in advance for their compassion for the animals who find themselves in our shelter due to no fault of their own. We at Second Chance Pet Rescue try to give all our animals the best care and much love while they wait for a home of their own."

To check out the shelter's wish list, persons interested may visit or contact Nelson at 918-786-7630 to inquire what basic necessities are needed.

Wish List donations may also be dropped off at our Second Chance Thrift Shop, 220 East Third Street, and volunteers will deliver the supplies to the shelter.
