AFTON - Kansas Lady Comets soared to the finals of the Coca-Cola Classic Tournament in Afton Saturday, Dec. 10 only to run into Class 2A, 14th-ranked Mounds. The outcome was not what the Comets were expecting: a 51-48 loss. Kansas beat Quapaw 67-22 and Fairland 59-33.

Five players finished in double figures for the Lady Comets led by Aydin Jones with 21 points. Kylee Armbrister added 12, Teri Leaf 11 with Torey Snell and Emma Kirk 10 each. Ashlyne Davis added nine points, Addison Gregory and Callie Fencer three while Sydney Thompson and Goddard had two.
Kansas took the lead early with a 23-7 lead after the first and 41-14 at halftime.

Kirk led the team with 18 points while Jones had 11, Armbrister eight, Davis seven, Gregory, Leaf and Snell three while Fencer, Kingfisher and Thompson chipped in two points each.
Kansas led 30-1 after the first and 37-6 at intermission.
Mounds 51 Kansas 48
Kansas led by seven at the end of the first quarter and 20-17 at halftime. Mounds outscored Colcord by ten in the third period for a 38-31 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
Jones led with 17 points in the game while Kirk was close by with 16. Snell scored six, Leaf four while Tailee Reding and Thompson had two each.
