Fish stories, like golf stories, can be blown out of proportion. One big fish equals a dozen little fishes released back into the water. One birdie (golf, that is) offsets six double bogies.

There is a fish story in the Bible that overshadows all others we have heard. Thrown overboard into a raging sea, Jonah was swallowed by a large fish, probably a whale. Dr. Lawrence, states that Jonah remained inside the fish for three days and three nights (Jonah 1:17), Sunday’s sermon will present a different look at this fish story.

The question the pastor asks is this: Did the whale swallow Jonah or did Jonah swallow the whale? Symbolically, Pastor Lawrence wants the congregation to hear how Jonah swallowed more than he could chew when he tried to run away from God’s clear direction. Jonah’s fish story is everyone’s story and Jonah can help us be truthful Fisher people or Golfer people, whichever.
