A former Delaware County school board president pleaded no contest to a rape charge and received a three-year suspended sentence, a prosecutor said Wednesday.

Tommy Hoover, 61, of Afton, entered the plea on Sept. 9 to second-degree rape.  He was scheduled to go to trial this week on three rape–related charges involving a 15-year-old girl.

Associate Judge Barry Denney found him guilty, said Nick Lelecas, assistant district attorney.

He is required to register as a sex offender and was fined $2,000 in addition to court costs, he said.

Hoover resigned his position as Cleora School Board president in March 2008.
