Friends of the Grove Public Library are inviting one and all to attend their annual meeting to be at the library at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Lee Nichols of Chouteau will present a program of humorous stories he has collected.

A short meeting will open the program.

President Nancy Perkins will cover the Friends’ activities of the past year  This will be followed by an election of members to the board of directors.  Nominations may be made from the floor.

Lee Nichols will then take the podium.  He was born in Pryor of a Cherokee-white family, and has lived most of his life in Chouteau.  His Cherokee family, the Conseens, are Old Settlers and came west before the Trail of Tears.  The white family, the McCormicks, were originally from Scotland.  They too came west a long time ago.

Lee’s stories are almost all humorous, but true, stories of people and businesses in the early days.

Lee has a good memory and spent much time during his childhood being near or working with his grandfather, Frank Nichols.

Following the program holiday refreshments will be served.  There will be drawings for door prizes.

Friends of the Grove Public Library invite everyone interested in promoting library programs to join Friends.  Dues are $7.50 for a single and $10 for a couple.  Dues for 2010 may be paid now.

Officers for 2010 will be elected by the board after the other activities.

If you're interested in area history and hertitage, please attend.
