The Grand Lake Family YMCA is expanding their hours of operation due to increased members.  Butch Christy, Branch Director of the Y in Grove says, “We are extremely excited that our memberships have increased to the point of having to increase our hours of operation.  We have reached an all time high as far as membership units at 307 and 620 total members. We are now open til 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and til 12 noon on Saturdays, and as our memberships continue to increase we will continue to expand hours as needed."

The Y staff and volunteers have been very active in recruiting members starting with an open house, having a booth at the Grove Home and Garden show, and they will also have a booth at the Grove Boat and Travel show on March 11-13 at the Grove Civic Center.  Mr. Christy said, “All of these have helped increase membership, but what has really helped is our free week pass.  We started handing out guess passes at the open house, and giving them to our current members to invite and encourage their friends and family to try us out.  That has been huge for us accounting for 80 percent of our new members”.

With only 93 memberships to go til they can begin the capitol campaign things are really picking up around the Grand Lake Y.  Mr. Christy stated, “As we are getting closer to the Magic 400 units” thats when they can begin raising funds to build a new YMCA with an indoor pool, “We are already developing committees to begin planing and development for the capitol campaign, as well as a facility.  It truely is an exciting time for us, and if you would like to try the Y out just come in and we will give you a week pass to try our wellness programs and fitness equipment out.  If you don’t want to use the Y facility you can still help us reach our goal by becoming a contributing member to our Strong Kid’s campaign.  By sponsoring a youth or a family for either $15 per month or $30 per month you get to write it off on your taxes and we get to count that membership towards our goal.  Thats a win win situation for you, the Y, and a youth or family that would not be able to participate otherwise. PLease call if you are interested in helping in that way.  The Grand Lake Y provides over $20,000 in financial assistance and scholarships per year for youth to participate in programs and membership at our Y.  We will never turn someone away because of their inability to pay.”
