Culinary students from Afton Northeast Technology Center (NTC) recently competed in the Pro Start Student Invitational.
This contest, presented by Sysco and the Oklahoma Restaurant Association, was held in Norman, Oklahoma on February 26 and 27.
In the competition, students competed for over $200,000 in scholarships.
Four Afton NTC students competed as a team and placed third in the Quickserve competition. The Afton NTC team was comprised of Michaela McMillan of Miami, Jazlynn Ehrie of Grove, Kandace Thomason of Welch, and Laken Owens of Wyandotte.
In the Quickserve category, students were shown a culinary task and then asked to perform it.
Students were judged on customer service, presentation, and plating of the food.
Afton culinary students also competed in the Academic Bowl team portion of the competition.
Students on the Afton NTC team were Danielle Girvin of Vinita, Jasmine Tackett of Wyandotte, and Arin Way of Quapaw.
