Grove Sun

Cold weather didn’t keep Grand Lakers home this past weekend. As a matter of fact, the Women’s Auxiliary Association of Monkey Island (WAAMI) simply rolled out of bed and went straight to the Monkey Island Community Center to serve breakfast in their pajamas. The early morning temperature was a chilly unconfirmed 29 degrees.

Proceeds from the breakfast and bake sale go to the community center. More information on this event, the WAAMI Thrift Store anniversary and the community center can be found in The Grove Sun’s Friday Monkey Business.

The South Grand Lake Lions Club of Langley sponsored the Fourth Annual Chili Cook-Off Festival on Saturday, November 6 at the Langley City Park. The event includes a Little Pepper Prince and Princess Contest, live music by West Wind, Paws in the Park Dog Contest, kid zone, face painting & balloons and cash prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place chili and 1st place salsa. Tulsa Shriner Clowns were also there providing entertainment.

Proceeds from the chili cook-off go into the Lions Club general fund, which provides funding for South Grand Lake Lions Club general projects, eyeglasses, seniors bingo and scholarships. Food donations will be taken to the Blue House food bank.

The Humane Society was also at the Langley City Park hosting Paws in the Park. Winners the South Grand Lake Lions 2010 Chili Festival “Paws in the Park”. First place ribbons were awarded to each winner in the five competition categories for both large and small dogs. Entry Fee was pet food which was donated to the Humane Society of Grove and Grand Lake. Judges were Carol Rice of the Humane Society, and Nicki Bartlett of The Chronicle of Grand Lake.

It was warm and toasty in the Grove Civic Center on Sunday, November 7, where there was a standing room only crowd at the brothers circus. Spectators were entertained by Circus acts from all over the world including Columbia, Canada, Mexico. Circus goers could ride elephants and ponies and five month old Zena the Zebra was on hand to pet and take pictures with.
