Kiwanis Club of Grove has selected their sophomore of the year for 2008-2009 school year. Selected is Vanessa Allington, daughter of Jami and Randi Allington of Grove.

Vanessa will be attending the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Training in June for a two-day session. This is an intense training program and all HOBY alumni state that it is invaluable for giving them the leadership skills to bring back to Grove High School. They also say they form lasting friendships and network skills with sophomores from across the state of Oklahoma.

Vanessa’s application essay and information has also been sent to Kiwanis Texas-Oklahoma District 25 where it will be judged with other essays and a $600 scholarship will be given to a sophomore from that district.

The Grove Kiwanis Club is a service club whose mission is to serve children. They sponsor one sophomore to attend HOBY each year, and give a scholarship to a Grove High School Senior each year. They also sponsor the Grove High School Key Club, maintain the Kiwanis Kids Park at 10th and Mill Streets, as well as such community projects as getting the flags our on 3rd street and on Main Street on 6 national holidays each year,
