I am incredibly rich.  I woke up this morning after a good night of rest.  I have good health.  I have two feet. I can walk, even run—not as far or as fast I once could.  I have two eyes that have witnessed magnificent sunrises and sunsets, majestic mountains, vast oceans, and many incredible scenes that God has painted.  I have two ears to hear the voices of my loved ones and beautiful music.  I have a wonderful family and Christian friends.  I am rich, daily I enjoy life that God has given me.  These and a myriad of other blessings I enjoy are mine simply because I am a human being.

As an American I am rich.  You go to any third world country and the people there will immediately assume you are rich because you are an American and by their standards we are rich.  I am incredibly rich, not because of the money I have, but because I enjoy freedom of religion and freedom of speech, and the privilege to vote.  I live in a country that makes a concerted effort to protect me and my family.  America is a land opportunity and choices.   These and a myriad of other blessings are mine simply because I was born in America.

I am rich because I can talk to my heavenly Father.  He hears and answers my prayer.  I have God’s word available in my native tongue.  I am rich because Jesus Christ offers me salvation and hope.  God has created me in His image and His likeness.   His Son died on the cross for me.  His Holy Spirit is available to guide me and lead me.

I am rich and so are you. What have I done to deserve these blessings? The same thing you have done to deserve them.  ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.  I was born a human being created in the image of God.  I had nothing to do with that.  I was born in America, land of the free and home of the brave, but I had no control over where or when I would be born.

God loved me long before I was born.  He arranged for Jesus to die for my sins long before I was born.  I can take no credit for deserving or earning any of the wonderful blessings God has given to me.

What do you have, what do I have that did not come from God?  “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights” (James 1:17).

I do not deserve these bountiful blessing, but I am extremely grateful for God’s blessings, though so undeserved.  As a result I have an obligation.  Freely you have received, freely give.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
