Church of the Shepherd in Grove is inviting the public to help celebrate the opening of their new worship center and multi-purpose facility this Sunday, Sept. 13.
Dubbed “LAUNCH — A New Experience,” the church will hold an open house and tour from 9 to 10 a.m. on Sunday. Visitors are invited to stay for the 10:30 a.m. service.
Construction on the more than half-million dollar, 15,000-square-foot facility, began in January.
“We needed the expansion,” said Pastor Mike Whitney. “We just couldn’t hold the people coming. We’re making room for more people.”
And the church is playing off that theme, marketing the new facility as “We’ve made room just for you!”
Currently, the church holds services in a room that can seat a “tight” 180. With 125 members and 175 attending on a regular basis, the new facility was desperately needed, Whitney said.
The new wing can seat 400 for Sunday services. The multi-purpose design allows the worship center to be converted to a basketball court, and the area can also be used for other activities during the week.
Upstairs will be a large youth room and six classrooms. Besides the multi-purpose room downstairs, there are also four offices and two more classrooms available.
Coupled with the launch of the new building, the church is starting their new youth and children programs. Also, their Life Groups — smaller group meetings for adults — will be starting up.
“Our desire is to reach the un-churched people in the area,” Whitney said. “There are so many in the Grove and Grand Lake area who don’t have a church family or are looking for a church and have yet to try us.”
“We offer contemporary music in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere,” Whitney said. “Our emphasis is on a practical message that speaks to everyday concerns.
“So if you are looking for a church family that is not so traditional, then come and enjoy great coffee at our He-Brews Café, the music of the COS praise band, a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, and most of all, a message that could LAUNCH a new direction for your life!”
