  • Girl Scouts remember girl at bridging ceremony

  • The family of Jessica Lewandowski was honored Sunday at the Girl Scout Bridging Ceremony at Lendonwood Gardens.
    Surrounded by spring flowers of different colors, members of the Grove Girl Scout Troop 1831 placed white carnations at the base of the Angel of Hope statue.
    Debbie Deakins, troop leader recited a poem and remembered Jessie and the troop gave flowers and a potted plant of daisies, as a remembrance of the Girl Scout Daisy Troop, to Mike and Julie Lewandowski, Jessie’s parents.
    “Jessie loved Girl Scouts,” said Mike Lewandowski. “The last week before she passed she had spent at a Girl Scout camp and that’s all she talked about.”
    Jessica “Jessie” Lewandowski died July 21, 2002 of bacterial meningitis. She was 11-years-old.
    Earlier in the evening, several girls walked across the bridge near the Japanese Pavilion and Koi Pond Garden. Once they crossed the bridge, they received their badges and cookie sale prizes and was transitioned to the next level.
