Just as three rivers join together to form Grand Lake, a diverse group of area residents have joined together to form a new church in Grove.

Three Rivers PCA (Presbyterian Church of America) will officially launch on Sunday, March 27, at its new location, the former Jump Station on north Highway 59, Grove.

Led by the Rev. Mark Kuiper, the congregation is described as a "liturgical, blended and indigenous."

"We use language people can understand here, [within] an order of worship that is driven by the incarnational Gospel," Kuiper said. "This church believes that grace...is not just for salvation but for our everyday lives. Grace helps us grow and live.

"Grace changes everything."

The church's name is derived as a symbol of the three rivers that form Grand Lake.

Kuiper said rivers are often used as a symbol within scripture, ranging from creation to Revelation.

"[The name] represents the different type of people who come into this community," Kuiper said.

Three Rivers Church PCA began as a bible study. For the past year, members have been meeting in space rented from the Grove Middle School.

Easter marks the beginning of services under Kuiper's direction, in the church's new location.

Sunday's schedule includes a children's worship at 9 a.m., with a family worship at 10 a.m.

Approximately 60 to 70 people, including 15 families and numerous children attend the church at this time.

More about Kuiper

Kupier and his wife, Tammy, have been married for 30 years. The Kupiers have four adult children, three who live in St. Louis and one who is a student at the University of Mississippi at Oxford.

Most recently Kuiper has served as the senior pastor for Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church, a large church with two schools in St. Louis.

Kupier said he chose to move to Grove because he wanted to find a place where he could serve, and also be a size where he would know the names of everyone within his congregation.

Kupier said a visit to Grand Lake sealed the deal, and helped him make the decision to move to Grove.
