The Northeast District 4-H Poultry and Rabbits Shows will make their final run over the next two weeks with shows set for Saturday, Jan. 4 and Jan. 11.

All the shows will be held at the Cherokee County Fairgrounds south of Tahlequah and are open to 4-H exhibitors in the Northeast District.

Entries are due by 9 a.m. the morning of each show with the event set to begin at 10 a.m. There is a one time $5 membership fee with the proceeds used to purchase Grand and Reserve Grand Champion awards for each event.

The pay scale for the top 10 birds and top 10 rabbits at each show is as follows: Grand Champion, $200; Reserve Grand Champion, $175; 3rd Overall, $150; 4th Overall, $100; 5th Overall, $75; 6th Overall, $60; 7th Overall, $50; 8th Overall, $40; 9th Overall, $30; and 10th Overall, $20.

This scale is set up if the financial backing of the Cherokee Nation comes through or if the show remains above 100 head entered. The pay scale will may be adjusted according to how many animals or birds are entered.

Each show will also feature a showmanship contest with a junior division for exhibitors 9 to 12, and a senior division for 13 and above.  The Champion Showman will win $75 for each show while the Reserve Showman will get $50.

The show is open to 4-Hers living in the following counties: Ottawa, Delaware, Cherokee, McIntosh, Mayes, Wagoner, Adair, Muskogee, Osage, Washington, Nowata, Craig, Rogers, Sequoyah, Okmulgee, Okfuskee, Lincoln, Creek, Pawnee, Payne, Tulsa and Hughes.

Exhibitors must wear a 4-H shirt or jacket, or have a shirt or jacket displaying the 4-H emblem. All exhibitors must be a 4-H member of one of the fore mentioned counties and must be at least 9-years-old.

All substitute showmen (if an exhibitor has more than in a class and need assistance) must be 4-H members. No parents or under age siblings may help the exhibitor.

No adults or parents, other than ring helpers, are allowed near the show table or the judge during the show. Only exhibitors are allowed in the show ring or around the show tables during the show.
